47 BJJ Co-op – Kids Martial Arts
47 Co-op Kids

Build better movers. Good martial artists tend to follow.

BJJ + Okinawan Karate for kids and teens in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens / Crown Heights.

Our kids program uses martial arts to develop coordination, balance, confidence, awareness, and the ability to work with other people. Younger kids learn through movement and play; training becomes more technical and challenging as they grow.

What we’re building

Move

Move well

Balance, coordination, mobility, timing, and general athleticism that carries over to martial arts and other sports.

Adapt

Handle challenges

Practice patience, resilience, awareness, cooperation, and staying composed when something doesn’t work immediately.

Learn

Learn martial arts

BJJ and Okinawan Karate give kids a structured way to put those skills into practice with partners, progressively and safely.

A program that grows with them

Ages 6–8

Foundations

Play, movement, coordination, and confidence. Fast-moving classes use games and simple martial arts skills to make learning physical, social, and fun.

Ages 9–11

Building

More structure, more technical skill, and more opportunities to apply what they’re learning with a partner.

Ages 12–14

Advancing

Training becomes increasingly similar to adult martial arts: more drilling, problem-solving, controlled resistance, and responsibility.

Ages 15–17

Transitioning

Teen training bridges the gap between the kids and adult programs, with more technical training, greater independence, and opportunities to train alongside adults when appropriate.

Why both BJJ and Karate?

Karate

Movement on the feet

Karate develops posture, distance, striking mechanics, rhythm, timing, balance, and the ability to move with intention while standing.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Movement on the ground

BJJ develops balance, ground mobility, control, problem-solving, and comfort working against resistance.

The common thread

Learning how to use their body well

Kids don’t need to specialize early. Both arts give them different ways to practice coordination, awareness, timing, and control.
